On Sunday, a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Phoenix to Honolulu encountered severe turbulence, resulting in 36 passengers being injured, 20 of whom were taken to emergency rooms. Of these, 11 were in serious condition, including a 14-month-old child. Injuries sustained included head injuries, lacerations, bruising, and loss of consciousness. Three crew members were also among those injured. The turbulence occurred 15 to 30 minutes before the plane's scheduled arrival in Honolulu, which carried a total of 278 passengers and 10 crew members. The incident prompted a "mass casualty emergency" response from the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services and the American Medical Response. The airline has stated that it is providing support to all affected passengers and employees, and is conducting a thorough inspection of the aircraft before returning it to service. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are both investigating the incident.
