Mexican state-owned oil company Pemex experienced three fires in one day at three different facilities in Mexico and the United States. On Thursday, Pemex reported a fire at the Tuzandepetl storage facility in Veracruz, where the blaze started in the drilling equipment for unknown reasons. Five workers are missing, while three others are being treated for injuries at the hospital. The fire was extinguished, Pemex said. Later that day, a fire broke out at the Minatitlán refinery in Veracruz, causing injuries to five workers, but no damage to refinery equipment or operations. The cause of the second fire is believed to be product spilling on a hot surface. The third fire occurred in the Pemex-operated Deer Park refinery in Texas. Reuters reported a fire incident being handled within the refinery, with an all-clear alert issued later. Pemex facilities have had several incidents in recent years, including a November 2021 pipeline explosion in Veracruz that injured 19, a gas pipeline explosion in Tabasco in September 2021, and a fire in a Pemex oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico in August 2021 that killed five workers and reduced Pemex's production by 444,000 bpd.
