A section of the roof at Osasco Plaza mall in Greater São Paulo collapsed on Wednesday afternoon, prompting the deployment of several fire engines to the scene. While there is currently no information on possible victims, preliminary reports from the Fire Department indicate that the incident occurred on Lieutenant Avelar Pires de Azevedo street. The Civil Defense of the city has been activated to assess the risk of a new collapse. According to Captain André Elias of the Fire Department, vehicles on the mall's upper floor fell through to the food court area. Fortunately, the area had already been secured by mall security, and as of now, there have been no reported injuries. The city of Osasco confirmed that the mall's Fire Department inspection certificate is up-to-date and the cause of the accident is under investigation. The mall has a tragic history, with a deadly gas explosion in 1996 and a previous roof collapse in 2015.
