A routine traffic stop turned into a close call for a patrol officer on May 1 in Sully, Virginia. As the officer was conducting the stop, a 17-year-old driver in a black 2018 BMW M3 lost control while traveling northbound on Fairfax County Parkway at high speed. The BMW crossed the median and struck the officer's vehicle and a community member's vehicle before finally stopping. The officer was nearly hit and killed, but thankfully only sustained minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The juvenile driver of the BMW M3 and two passengers sustained minor injuries and the driver was charged with reckless driving.
This incident serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of safe driving and the potential consequences of reckless behavior. Parents and guardians are encouraged to use this video as an opportunity to discuss safe driving practices with their teen drivers. The Fairfax County Police Department remains committed to traffic safety and will continue to enforce traffic laws and educate drivers to prevent senseless tragedies on the road.
