Nikola Jokić, the talented Serbian basketball player, has proven himself to be exceptional on the court. However, when it comes to holding onto important merchandise, he seems to have a bit of trouble. After being named the NBA Finals MVP and receiving the prestigious Bill Russell Trophy, Jokić was unable to locate it when asked by ESPN's Malika Andrews.
"I really don't know," Jokić admitted. "I left it in Sparky Gonzales, the Nuggets' equipment manager's room, and he's not there anymore. So, I don't know."
Thankfully, the trophy was found, and Jokić himself showed up for a lively parade the following day. Andrews reported that Gonzales had prepared the trophy for the celebration, ensuring it was clean and in perfect condition.
Jokić's win as the NBA Finals MVP was practically a formality after his outstanding performance throughout the series. Averaging an impressive 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists over five games, he led the Denver Nuggets to their first-ever championship with a 4-1 victory over the Miami Heat.
While losing track of the trophy may have been a small mishap, it was not the only instance of Jokić's nonchalant behavior after winning the championship. When asked about his excitement for the parade, he flatly responded, "No, I need to go home."
However, despite his initial reluctance, Jokić appeared thrilled to be at the parade, radiating joy alongside his wife and child amidst a sea of adoring fans. He even expressed his support for the parade with an enthusiastic message, laced with a few choice words.
It is evident that Jokić's highest priorities extend beyond basketball. "Basketball is not the main thing in my life. It's something that I'm good at," he shared with Andrews. Following the parade, Jokić's focus will turn towards one of his true passions—taking care of his horses. He humorously mentioned needing to ask Nuggets owner Josh Kroenke for a plane to ensure he can make it back in time for horse racing on Sunday.
While Jokić's misplacement of the trophy adds a comical touch to his championship journey, there is no denying his talent and the joy he brings to both the basketball court and his personal pursuits.
