A former college athlete was kicked out of a library in California after she was accused of misgendering people while talking about transgender athletes in women's sports.
Sophia Lorey, a speaker and former athlete, was delivering a speech on Sunday at a library located in Davis, California, where she talked about how young girls could not have the same dreams and aspirations she had growing up "as long as men are allowed to compete in women's sports." She was then cut off by a librarian over her statement, who said she would be asked to leave over her comments. Lorey then continued speaking and described the topic as “biological men” competing with “biological girls,” according to footage of the event shared on social media.
"The librarian then again told me to leave so I directly said why am I being asked to leave, and he told me 'Because you are misgendering, you were talking about men in women sports,'" Lorey wrote on X, the platform previously known as Twitter. "The group putting on the event had the conference room reserved at the public library to host the event at Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library."
