Five people were arrested on gun charges at this year’s J’Ouvert festival — but no shootings or stabbings were reported, with the historically violence-plagued celebration going off without a hitch for the second year in a row, police sources said Monday.
The pre-dawn jamboree – which kicks off the festivities before the daytime West Indian American Day Carnival that spans Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights – took place early Monday without the bloodshed that has typically marred the event, the sources said.
The nature of the gun arrests was not immediately known.
Attendees put on a not-so-family-friendly display as scantly clad women grinded on men in the streets as children looked on.
