Police sprayed an eye irritant at a crowd blocking a police van carrying people arrested at a pro-Hamas demonstration Monday. At least 40 people were arrested at an encampment on the south lawn of UT Austin’s campus, according to George Lobb, an attorney who helped coordinate the release of arrested protesters at a previous protest.
An attempt to “occupy” the campus last week led to 57 arrests.
Around 100 protesters gathered around midday Monday with tents and blankets. They held signs that said, “Divest from genocide,” “UT supports war crimes” and “Free Palestine.”
