The locals of the southern part of Pentecost Island, Vanuatu engage in a traditional ritual called Land diving, also known as Gol in the Sa language and Nanggol in Bislama. This activity involves men jumping off wooden towers that are typically 20 to 30 meters (66 to 98 ft) high while having two tree vines tied around their ankles. Land diving is performed by attaching vines to each ankle, and it has evolved into a popular tourist attraction. According to the Guinness World Records, the individuals experiencing this ritual encounter the greatest g-force of any non-industrialized humans at their lowest point during the dive.
