In recent weeks, there have been reports on various alternative news platforms claiming that Chinese soldiers are being equipped with so-called "self destruct helmets." These reports have gained significant traction, with Google searches for the term "China self destruct helmets" rising by over 2000% in the past seven days in the United States alone.
However, upon closer examination, it appears that the origins of these reports can be traced back to articles that emerged in 2021, with the first one being from the Epoch Times. This article claimed to have sourced the information from a Chinese state-run media organization called China Observer. However, it should be noted that China Observer is not an official state-owned media organization but rather a YouTube channel that has been operating since 2020.
More recently, the story has resurfaced, trending on Google search and some social media platforms. The new origin of the story appears to be from prominent YouTuber Roman Balmakov on his channel Facts Matter with Roman Balmakov, which has over 1 million subscribers.
Balmakov claims in his video that Chinese soldiers stationed in Tibet are being issued helmets with a self-destruct button, which, when pressed, sets off a bomb embedded in the helmet, killing the soldier wearing it. The reason for this, he claims, is that the Chinese military has been struggling with soldiers deserting over the last several years.
While the reports have gained significant attention, it is important to note that there is no concrete evidence to support these claims. Without reliable sources and evidence, it is difficult to verify the validity of these reports. Moreover, the Chinese government has not made any official statements regarding the existence of such helmets.
