California lawmakers approve AB 1840 which allows for illegal immigrants to receive up to $150,000 for down payments on homes.
The program is called the "California Dream for All" loan program, which will provide up to 20% down payment assistance up to $150,000.
The program was initially only for legal residents however the new version would allow for illegal immigrants to apply for the program.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has not yet committed to signing the bill into law.
"If the bill reaches his desk, the Governor will evaluate it on its merits," said Newsom spokesperson.
The bill was passed in the State Senate with a vote of 23 in favor and 11 not in favor.
